Networking Tips To Get Your Startup Going

by Jun 15, 2021Communications Development0 comments

Startups are the way to the future, and they are here to stay. Networking is the most important step in the business plan of early-stage startups. Many people are taught technical business skills, yet no one is taught networking, so you may also be unsure of how to move forward. Luckily, our experienced team at WorqFlow Consultants, and I have compiled some helpful tips for you to get started.

Create a Plan

Most people think networking can be done by just winging it on the spot. But, building a network requires a detailed plan and strategy. Before you move on any further, you must start by creating a goal-oriented plan. Here are some steps to help with this process:

Brainstorm and Write Down All Your Goals

Use these goals to think of people that will help you achieve them
Figure out how to get in front of these people
Your plan is ready to go!
After your plan is ready to go, next comes the ‘Out-Reach’ strategy. This is when you can start researching local networking events and opportunities. Make sure you also set aside a weekly networking time limit for yourself. Try to exhaust this time every week, even when there is no event going on. Don’t overdo it though, or you might end up exhausting yourself instead.

Be Prepared

Before you start going to events and making conversation, make sure you are well prepared. Figure out what you are going to talk about once you approach someone. Write up a small text that includes what you offer, your brand values, and how your early-stage startup can be of help. It is also important that you act confident so the other person will take you seriously. This may sound silly, but we recommend practicing with a friend or even in front of a mirror. Of course, this doesn’t mean you must memorize your text and just repeat it robotically. Instead, fit all this information into a conversation naturally.

Network Everywhere

Remember, networking for early-stage startups is constant. Networking events are a great way to meet interested people who are looking to support new startups. For those in the US, Eventbrite is a great resource to find these sort of events near you. There is always some type of gathering happening, so maintain an organized calendar in order to not miss out on any opportunities. You can also find event announcements on social media platforms.

Of course, special networking events can be helpful to connect with people, but there are other opportunities you might miss if you focus on these events too much. Any social gathering can be a great spot to have fun but also find people who would be interested in your startup.

You shouldn’t wait for networking events; instead, look around at your existing network. Try to leverage the circle of connections you already have and strengthen these relationships. You never know where an opportunity can arise, so talk to everybody.

This also applies to networking online. Do not let automatic emails and boring ads become your brand. Be an active online presence that people can interact with and be open to everyone. Social media is an amazing way to network and build relationships.

In Conclusion

Of course, this may seem daunting for newcomers in the industry. If you need a little extra help, feel free to reach out to us and we will help you connect with local resources to get you on your way.
